Archie Franks

The work of Archie Franks mixes together a range of imagery and motifs taken from the grander eras of art history, such as the baroque and rococo, as well as popular contemporary culture and the more mundane aspects of the artist’s own everyday existence.

Archie Franks studied at City & Guilds of London Art School in 2009 where he obtained a 1st Class degree and following this at the Royal Academy Schools where he graduated from in 2012. Since then he has exhibited widely both nationally and internationally, including the prestigious ‘New Contemporaries’ exhibitions at Spike Island and the ICA in 2013, as well as being the recipient of numerous substantial awards, including the Sainsbury Scholarship in Painting 2013 which enabled him to spend a year working at the British School at Rome, and a Jerwood Painting Fellowship for 2016; an award consisting of nancial and professional support, culminating in a touring show starting at Jerwood Space in May 2016.
