Simon Burton was born in Yorkshire, England in 1973. He received a first class Bachelors Degree at the University of Brighton in 1995, before completing his MA in 1997 at the Royal College of Art. Burton now lives and works in London.
He has received the Birtle prize for painting (1995), the ARCO studios award, Lisbon, Portugal (1996), The John Minton Travel award (1996), The Jenny Hall Scholarship (1996) and for an extended period of time he worked in the U.S.A under the patronage of Robert and Susan Kasen-Summer (1997-98).
He has exhibited widely both solo and alongside important artists including, Francis Bacon, Lucian Freud, Graham Sutherland, L.S.Lowery, Jack B Yeats, Frank Auerbach and Sir Peter Blake. Recent solo shows include: 'Between cave and gate', ARTARY Gallery, Stuttgart, Germany (2012), Nowhere men' Arch 402 Gallery, London (2011), 'Under the Sign of Saturn' Kookmin Gallery, Seoul, South Korea (2007), 'In Ruins' The Shepherd Gallery, Nevada, USA and 'Black Swan, Blue Women' Huddersfield Art Gallery (2010).
Recent group shows include: Royal Academy Summer Show (2012/10), 'Foolish Romantics', Quay Arts, Isle of Wight, (2010), 'A Sort of Night to the Mind, A Kind of Night for Our Thoughts' Illusion and Materiality in contemporary Painting, touring Herbert Read Gallery, Canterbury (2009), Arch 402 Gallery, London and ARTARY Gallery, Stuttgart (2011) and 'Faith', Dean Clough Gallery, Halifax (2007). His work has been collected widely, both in the UK and abroad.
